Oklahoma City, OK (PRWEB) May 10, 2012

As talk of peace between Israeli and Palestinian leaders continue, Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu promises that he will strive for peace within one year. Palestinian Authority President Abbas participated last week in face to face discussions also hoping to reach a peaceful settlement within one year that will result in the emergence of an independent, democratic, and viable Palestinian state living side by side in peace and security with Israel and its other neighbors.

Indeed, hope for a negotiated peace once again begins to gain momentum; a very timely and highly compelling documentary about the conflict releases in October. Little Town of Bethlehem from EthnoGraphic Media (EGM) addresses the growing nonviolence movement in Palestine and Israel.

The film tells the story of three courageous men from opposite sides of the conflict who, at great personal cost, have already discovered the key to a nonviolent resolution to this seemingly intractable conflict. Produced by Mart Green, directed by Jim Hanon, and filmed on location in the West Bank, Tel Aviv, and Jerusalem, Little Town of Bethlehem brings awareness to a growing nonviolent movement in the Middle East that rarely, if ever, makes international headlines.

On September 21st, EGM will launch its international grassroots campus screening campaign for Little Town of Bethlehem. At nine of these screenings faculty experts will join the films three protagonists, director, and producer in discussions around nonviolent solutions to the ongoing conflict. Beyond that, more than 150 colleges and universities in the US, Australia, New Zealand, Palestine, Israel, India as well as the EU have committed to campus screenings beginning in late September.

The protagonists are Sami Awad, a Palestinian Christian whose grandfather was killed in Jerusalem in 1948. Today he is the executive director of Holy Land Trust, a non-profit organization that promotes Palestinian independence through peaceful means. Yonatan Shapira is an Israeli Jew whose grandparents were Zionist settlers who witnessed the birth of the Israeli nation. Today he is an outspoken advocate for the nonviolent peace movement, both in his homeland and abroad. Ahmad Al’ Azzeh is a Palestinian Muslim who has lived his entire life in the Azzeh refugee camp in Bethlehem. Today, Ahmad heads the nonviolence program at Holy Land Trust, where he trains others in the methods of peaceful activism.

Little Town of Bethlehem honestly and respectfully shares Samis, Yonatans, and Ahmads stories. With all three men referencing both Martin Luther King, Jr. and Mahatma Gandhi during individual interviews, it is clear that their words, thoughts, and actions on nonviolence still profoundly impact todays nonviolent movement. Little Town of Bethlehem is not just about educating and inspiring viewers, this film raises the question, can the cycle of violence be broken?

Madison, WI (PRWEB) May 07, 2012

In conjunction with Teacher Appreciation Week, mobile and digital study service StudyBlue helps students say thanks a latte to teachers with the Cards For Teachers annual recognition program. From May 7 through May 31, students are invited to visit the Cards For Teachers site and send digital thank-you messages to teachers and school staff who have made a difference in their lives. From those who are recognized, StudyBlue will randomly select 300 educators to receive a gift card for a free latte.

Educators are busy they dont often pause to think of themselves and dont get thanked enough for all the good work they do, said Becky Splitt, CEO of StudyBlue. The very best teachers motivate and encourage students to achieve their goals, and we hope this opportunity inspires those students to thank their teachers in return.

By adding a social twist, a simple, one-click template and some free lattes, StudyBlue is encouraging students of all ages to stop for a minute and thank their teachers. Once a student hits high school, or even as early as middle school, its no longer cool to thank a teacher, said Splitt. Our hope is to make it easy and fun for students to honor educators who have been a positive influence in their lives. And in turn recognize the best educators who dont hear it enough, especially at the middle and high school levels.

The Cards For Teachers program is open to everyone, including students, former students and parents. In addition, any teacher or school staff member may be recognized. With one click, a digital thank-you card is created and displayed on the Cards For Teachers virtual wall of thanks. The message is also emailed to the deserving educator with a digital badge they can display with pride on Pinterest and other social media outlets. We hope this becomes a badge of honor, said Splitt. StudyBlue will deliver a $ 5 coffee card to the 300 lucky teachers when the program concludes at the end of May.

Held during the second week of May, Teacher Appreciation Week is an opportunity to celebrate educators. May 8th marks Teacher Appreciation Day, when students and parents often thank their teachers with cards, small gifts and other tokens of gratitude.

Nashville, TN (PRWEB) May 02, 2012

The International Songwriting Competition (ISC), the world’s foremost global songwriting event, is pleased to announce its 2011 winners. ISCs Grand Prize is awarded to New Zealand native Kimbra for her song Cameo Lover, entered in the Pop/Top 40 category. Kimbra also holds the distinction of having won First Place in the Pop/Top 40 category in 2010 for her song Settle Down. The Grand Prize winner takes home $ 25,000 in cash (US) and an additional $ 25,000 in merchandise and services.

Called the songwriting competition to take note of by the New York Times, ISC was

established in 2002 and awards more than $ 150,000 in cash and prizes to amateur and

professional songwriters around the globe. This year was the most competitive of any year

in terms of quantity and quality of entries, and winners were selected from over 16,000 songs

submitted from 112 countries worldwide. Judges included iconic artists Tom Waits, Jeff Beck,

McCoy Tyner, Kelly Clarkson, Janelle Monae, Ozzy Osbourne, Lucinda Williams, Tori Amos,

Wynonna, Keane, and many more. In addition to the high-profile artists, the roster of judges

also included five record label presidents as well as other industry leaders, offering songwriters

the unprecedented opportunity to have their music heard by influential decision-makers. See

below for the complete list of judges.

For a complete list of 2011 ISC winners and to hear the winning songs, go to http://www.songwritingcompetition.com/winners

Winning ISC’s highest honor is New Zealand’s latest export, the quirky and wonderfully eclectic artist Kimbra. Kimbra has recently exploded onto the international music charts as the featured singer on Australian artist Gotye’s current #1 hit song, “Somebody That I Used To Know.” Her recent TV performances with Gotye on Jimmy Kimmel Live and Saturday Night Live were electrifying and introduced her to the US public, fortifying her meteoric rise to fame.

Only 22 years old, Kimbra began writing songs and performing at the age of 10. Spending her early years gigging around her native New Zealand, it was only once Kimbra borrowed a small eight-track recorder from her schools music department that her songwriting blossomed in earnest. Since then, she has made enormous strides in her career. Her debut album, Vows, was released in 2011 in New Zealand and Australia, and in its first week of release the album charted at #3 in New Zealand and #5 in Australia (peaking at #4 on the ARIA Charts). The album will be released in the US and Canada on May 22.

Accolades include winning the 2011 NZ Critics’ Choice awards and also the Best Female Artist for Cameo Lover at the 2011 ARIA awards.

Even at such a young age, Kimbra already possesses great maturity and musical sophistication. Candace Avery, the Founder and Director of ISC, says this of Kimbra:

We first became aware of Kimbra in 2010 when she entered ISC and won First Place in the Pop/Top 40 category with her song Settle Down. At that time we knew she was one of those artists who had “it”. As a songwriter, her eclectic and somewhat quirky songwriting made her stand out. As an artist, she brings her songs to life with her unique vocal styling and compelling stage presence. Kimbra is rapidly establishing herself as a significant talent and a fresh and exciting new voice on the international music scene. We are proud to have her as our 2011 Grand Prize winner.

For high-res photos, please contact Candace Avery at cavery(at)songwritingcompetition(dot)com

In addition to the Grand Prize winner, many other deserving songwriters also share the spotlight for winning their respective categories in ISC 2011. These winners represent diverse cultures and range from talented amateurs to seasoned songwriting veterans. See below for a complete list of ISC 2011 winners.

Torrance, CA (PRWEB) April 28, 2012

For the first time in its history, iCRco, a global leader in providing innovative digital x-ray solutions, will be exhibiting at the São Paulo Radiological Meeting (JPR) in São Paulo, Brazil, May 3-6.

The JPR conference is the premier event on medical imaging in Latin America and the fourth largest in the world.

Currently, we provide medical imaging technology to facilities in 70 other countries and we have five offices worldwide, said Jared Houk, Global Director of Strategic Marketing and Business Development. Our presence in Brazil at this time reflects both the powerful emergence of the Latin American influence worldwide as well as our own goal of providing affordable, superior medical imaging technology wherever it is needed in the world.

In São Paulo, attendees will be able to review iCRcos iCR3600, the most affordable CR in the market. The iCR3600 received an “A” rating in all technology, sales and service fields in the 2009 KLAS Medical Imaging Buyer’s Guide.

The multiple benefits in the iCR3600 are due in part to the True Flat Scan Path technology, which ensures the phosphor plate never leaves the cassette to avoid any plate handling, damage or wear during the scan process.

Our first step with any new market is to fully understand how our customers plan to use our products because international applications vary. Rather than try to have them conform to our products, we can create individualized approaches to use that create maximum efficiencies, said Houk.

About iCRco

Founded in 1990 by Stephen Neushul, iCRco has introduced several innovative technologies with its direct digital radiography, computed radiography, film digitizer and PACS product lines. In 2002, iCRco introduced the first computed radiography machine to have True Flat Scan Path technology. Today, iCRco continues to lead its medical imaging categories through the development of innovative digital x-ray imaging solutions, including a complete suite of x-ray imaging hardware, PACS, imaging software and integrated solutions for the medical, orthopedic, womens health, chiropractic, veterinary and non-destructive testing markets.

iCRco is proud to be the choice of United States Military for portable digital imaging and received straight A’s in all fields in the 2009 KLAS Medical Imaging Buyer’s Guide.

Attendees to the JPR conference at Transamerica Expo Center, in São Paulo, Brazil May 3-6 can see iCRco products and services at booth no. 112. For more information, contact Felipe Carrera, iCRco Latin America Regional Sales Manager, at (310) 921-9559 x 250 or at fcarrera(at)icrcompany(dot)com.

Waterford, CT (PRWEB) April 26, 2012

Today, award-winning author Tony Northrup released his best-selling photography book, Tony Northrup’s DSLR Book: How to Create Stunning Digital Photography, to Apple’s iBookStore. Previously available in paperback, Amazon Kindle, and Barnes & Noble Nook formats, the unique book has already reached more than 100,000 readers.

The power of the Apple iBookstore enables a feature not available on the other formats: integrated video training that is available without an Internet connection. In addition to more than 250 pages of text and 375 sample photos, Stunning Digital Photography includes more than an hour of instructional video. Each video lesson can be viewed on the reader’s iPhone, iPad, or iPod.

Since the initial release on Amazon four months ago, readers have received ten free updates adding text, pictures, and videos, with many more planned for the future. The commitment to continual updates prevents the book from becoming outdated as new photography trends and camera features emerge. Existing readers can download updated versions of the book for free. Because the book covers all major forms of photography in great depth, it is the last photography book most readers will ever need to buy.

At the end of each chapter, the book provides optional exercises for the students to complete to gain hands-on experience. To provide the experience of a virtual photography class, students share pictures and ask the author questions on the authors Facebook page.

Stunning Digital Photography currently has 45 reviews at Amazon.com and an average review of 4.7 out of 5. Highlights from these reviews show the impact of these innovations:

With several hours of excellent how-to videos included along with his well-written text and superb images, Tony delivers a novel, effective and entirely engaging method for sharing his unique photographic insight. He communicates his enthusiasm for the art and craft of making images as he takes the student with him on location in his beautifully rendered videos. I found myself pausing a video, going to the text to confirm an idea or camera setting, checking them on my camera, and returning to the video for follow through. Jefferson from Maine

The constant updates the author is committed to is amazing. Just yesterday, months after its release, I saw a new video added PlanetRegin from Jacksonville

The videos in the ebook are also very insightful (thank you Tony for that, I’m more of a visual person, so they really helped put things to perspective- the more videos the better). le8 from Michigan

The author breaks everything down into easy to understand concepts and the addition of the videos really helps clarify things. Photography can be very complex for a beginner and this book and collection of videos and illustrations simplifies it. Jen from Atlanta
