Washington, DC (PRWEB) November 03, 2011

Lean & Hungry Theater, Washington DCs only radio drama company, will have its production of Shakespeares classic comedy A Midsummer Nights Dream aired Sunday, November 6 on KUT-FM, the NPR affiliate for Central Texas, in the state capital of Austin.

KUT will broadcast A Midsummer Nights Dream on the stations ODark 30 program, which airs on Digital KUT2 at 4 PM on Sunday afternoon, and again at midnight on their main frequency of 90.5 FM. The program will be streamed online as well.

“A Midsummer Night’s Dream” was first aired in June 2011 on WAMU 88-5, Washington, DC’s NPR affiliate and Lean & Hungry Theater’s long-time partnering station.

We are always delighted to bring something new and exciting to our listeners here in Central Texas, said Hawk Mendenhall, Associate GM and Director: Content & Broadcast for KUT, KUT2 and KUT3. This adaptation of A Midsummer Nights Dream certainly fills that bill and we look forward to airing more high quality Lean & Hungry productions here on KUT.

The KUT broadcast of A Midsummer Nights Dream is the first Lean & Hungry production to air as syndicated content. Lean & Hungry programs are available on Public Radio Exchange, an online marketplace for distribution, review and licensing of public radio programming. Interested broadcasters can find syndication information for A Midsummer Nights Dream at http://www.prx.org/pieces/69399-lean-hungry-theater-presents-a-midsummer-night

A Midsummer Nights Dream was directed by Hannah Todd, with the guidance of Lean & Hungrys Artistic Director Jessica Hansen. Special effects and musical underscore for Lean & Hungrys productions are provided by Lean & Hungry Technical Director Gregg Martin

The cast of A Midsummer Nights Dream includes Steve Beall, Chris Genebach, Jessica Hansen, Karen Novack, Matthew Vaky, Alex Vaughan and Alex Zavistovich. These artists have appeared with or taught at The Folger Theatre, The Shakespeare Theatre, The Baltimore Shakespeare Festival, The Chesapeake Shakespeare Company, The Washington Shakespeare Company, Studio Theatre, and other local and national companies.

Set in the Prohibition Era, Lean & Hungrys A Midsummer Nights Dream recasts Shakespeares classic characters as gangsters and molls, with most of the action taking place in and around a speakeasy called The Woods. The story of bewitched young lovers, vengeful gods and slapstick workers creates a world of magic and transformation with a hilarious play-within-a-play climax.

A Midsummer Nights Dream is a staple of English and Theatre education, and part of the required reading list for many public schools around the country, explained Lean & Hungrys Hansen.

By placing our production in a more contemporary setting with modern-day sound effects, were offering an easy-to-understand perspective for todays young audiences, Hansen added. Modern-language narration provides an ongoing recap of the original text throughout the show. Its a great way to introduce new audiences to this wonderful play.

The resident radio drama company of St. Stephen and the Incarnation, Lean & Hungry Theater is the only company in the Washington, DC metropolitan area dedicated to adapting works of Shakespeare and other classic playwrights for radio broadcast.

The productions and recordings of Lean & Hungry Theater productions are endorsed by the Columbia Lighthouse for the Blind.
